Like a String of Pearls album, completed in 2000, was our first album as Just Like T.H.A.T.! vocal trio, our first album with our new Big Band musician friends, and our first album to feature several original songs (Tracks # 1,5, 7,8,10, & 14)! We were on our own as a vocal trio for the first time after having spent several years as The Swing Sisters working with the Fran Dimmick Trio with whom we had recorded the previous album. In 1997, after much deliberation and a long run in Laughlin, NV as part of the Ramada Express’ flagship group in their Tribute to the1940s shows, we decided to end our employment positions as The Swing Sisters, leaving our former director to create the new kind of Swing Sisters show she had in mind. It was a long drive home after that last show, as we thought we might be finished singing the 1940s and 50s music we had come to love performing together. Much to our surprise and delight, when we got home, there was a message on Teresa’s answer machine (before cell phones!) from Ted Herman, well-known Big Band director in the Palm Springs area. “I hear you girls are free! How would you like to come and sing with my Big Band!” What a wonderful turn our careers took as Ted paid to have his chart man (the guy who writes all the music out for the various instruments) create charts for the band of our exact arrangements and invited us to perform with his amazing Big Band. It opened our options up to many venues after that and many different configurations and sizes of bands that we hired for our gigs. Whew! A lot to learn in that era, but all worth it. We were so excited and grateful to record with live horns (our favorite version of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy is on this album) and a few of the Big Band musicians we met in 1997 have become long-time friends and have appeared on subsequent albums. As a bit of trivia, after leaving The Swing Sisters name behind (since the show in Laughlin was using that name) we held a contest in our home town to pick a new name for our vocal trio. The name, “String of Pearls” won and we became String of Pearls for a season, until another group trade-marked the name and we had to give it up. We were in the process of recording this album and had already had the string of pearls artwork created for us when we found we had to pick a new name.  Teresa was on a hike, mulling over how we could use the already paid-for arwork when a new song, “Like a String of Pearls” came into her head and heart. That could now become one of the songs and the new name for the album, but what about a new name for the group? Richard Byford, a booking agent of ours at the time, frustrated with having to keep changing his info on us, suggested, “Can you gals please come up wtih a name no one else would think of, like something with your initials in it or something?! And hurry up!” One morning, shortly thereafter, Teresa woke up with another snatch of a song in her head with the lyrics, “How you want it, when you want it, just like that,” and realized that “that” had the trio’s initials in it! And… just like that, the name, “Just Like T.H.A.T.!  vocal trio” was born – Teresa, Hilary, Annie Together! The song is a fitting closer for this album. We hope you love listening to this fun album as much as we loved recording it!
